Tummy Time Guide | Learn the Benefits of Tummy Time for Babies | Tummy Time Tips & Positions
Tummy time is great for boosting a baby’s development, but just like with baby crawling tips, it’s important to know a few things first. That’s why we’ve created this tummy time guide.
Tummy time is the act of placing your baby on their stomach and playing with them. This helps them to develop a stronger neck and shoulders. It also sets the groundwork for successful sitting, crawling and later on, walking.
Tummy time should begin as soon as your newborn arrives home, but it must occur under supervision while your baby is awake and sharp. To get your baby in tummy time position, place a rolled up towel under their chest and assist them in placing their hands on the floor or another low, hard surface. Be sure to hold them up in their tummy time position – this is especially critical with newborns since they still need so much support.
When tummy time starts, you should play with your baby in this position 2 to 3 times a day for around 3 to 5 minutes each time. As your little darling grows stronger, slowly start increasing the length of each tummy time session. Consider these your baby’s exercise sessions for the day!
It’s highly recommended that tummy time is done right after changing their diaper or when they’re alert after a nap. If your baby falls asleep during tummy time, turn them over; never let them sleep on their stomach.
Your baby may be tired after tummy time – it’s a tough workout! Reward them with energy bites for babies or another type of refuel.
Tummy time is one of the most timeless gifts that you can give a baby – just don’t forget to savor the precious bonding experience that comes with it. Soon enough, your baby will be moving and crawling without your help!
